I am a biomedical artist

my work is research based, I make observations, I experiment and take notes, I draw, paint, sculpt

the internal and external human body in all its diversity , life and nature in all its beauty, strength, fragility, disease , mortality and death
all this and more is what inspires me

working for a wide field of disciplines ranging from ; the medical and scientific professions , hospitals, pharmaceutical companies, publishers, TV, theatre, film, and other artists

my materials are clay, plastoline, sculpey, wax, oil paint, silicone, epoxy and polyester, human hair and other natural materials, graphite pencil , ink, watercolour, photoshop and illustrator , etc ..I work on a mac

new technologies and philosophies are my allies

quantum physics , nano technology, animatronics I find very interesting and important in my work

I've completed my postgraduate training course with the Medical Artists' Education Trust of Great Britain.

I'm a Belgian National

Languages Dutch ( Flemish) , English, and a little bit of French and German.

1982-1985 St Lucas Academy of Art, Gent;(Belgium), Fine Art, Painting, Sculpture: I achieved a diploma with distinction.

1985-1987 The Royal Academy of Fine Arts Gent (Belgium), Painting, Fine Art.

 

1988-1991 Belgian Embassy (London), Receptionist and portrait painter .


June 1998-Winner of the Ronald Raven Barber's Award 98/99

Oct. 1996- March 2003 MAA Course;
This is a self-directed course. Monthly seminars are attended at the University College London (U.C.L.) or at the Royal College of Surgeons. There is an assessment twice a year, where the students' work is presented to a panel of judges comprising medical artists and surgeons.
22nd March 2003 ; I have finished my final assessment and I have passed with credit!


I received my certificate of professional membership from MAA Chairman Richard Neave at the Manchester University Conference April 2003


My melanocyte sculpture at the joint Medical Artists/Medical Illustrators exhibition.
The sculpture won the prize for "best graphic entry" to the exhibition.
The MAA / IMI 2000 joint conference at Cambridge University (England)
