Medical Art Education Information session with an exhibition of the students ;

MAEI-day

There are a number of EU institutions which teach Medical and Scientific illustration, and until the founding of our Association, Association European Illustrateurs Medicaux et Scientifique, they worked in isolation and did not have much contact one with the other.
Our aim is to continue to bring together Medical and Scientific Illustrators from all around Europe.
Our Focus is towards recruitment and training of young artists; student interaction within the organisation is an important part of our function. Presentation of a strong front in this profession will gain stronger recognition for the highly skilled work which is carried out by members of Association European Illustrateurs Medicaux et Scientifique [AEIMS].

AEIMS stages an open congress once a year for the purposes of education, sharing work experience, to contribute to innovation within the profession and social contact. Each year the venue is in close proximity to a school in one of the member countries; 19 congresses have taken place in 11 cities and 5 countries. During the congress, professionalism is promoted, and publicity of the profession and our organisation is sort through exhibition of the members' work and the news media. Seeking a broader platform of exposure for the profession attracts sponsorship assistance for the students.
We are very proud of our student members, and keen to hear of their activities; a session is always devoted to short presentations by student members of AEIMS, illustrating the work that they are doing. This is often the highlight of the conference!

Membership is gained by presentation of a portfolio of work, usually in a digital form. Members of the steering committee, who are widely spread in different countries, are then able to judge the quality of the work and content. The standard is very high. On gaining acceptance, a joining fee and annual subscription is paid.
The committee is drawn from professional artists in a number of European member countries.

The steering committee consists of:
Antoine Barnaud - France
Isabel Christensen - Germany
Margot Cooper United - Kingdom
Ray Evans United - Kingdom
Giliola Gambernini - Italy
Claus Larson - Italy
Christoph Goeldlin - Switzerland
Pascale Pollier-Green - Belgium
Anne Johnson-de Weissenbruch - Belgium
Rogier Trompert - Holland

Future Objectives
AEIMS would like to be able to endorse the certification of the different training programs for medical and scientific illustration which have been set up in Europe; it would like to, eventually, arrive at a European Curriculum for Medical and Scientific Illustration, the faculty of which would include all the schools. This is an important step in the development of this important biomedical related field.
